ISBN-10: 4770030193 Aikido: The Complete Basic Techniques
In Aikido: The Complete Basic Techniques, Gozo Shioda, renowned master and teacher as well as the top student of modern Aikido's founder, offers lucid and detailed explanations of all of the most important basic Aikido techniques. He demonstrates how the Basic Exercises that form the core
teachings of Aikdo will help the practitioner develop physical focus, and will teach him how to harness that focus for wider practical applications.
The book deals primarily with the Basic Throws that one learns in the early stages of Aikido practice and is based on a revised edition of an earlier Japanese textbook that has never before been for sale to the public. This updated English version includes a wealth of rare photographs of the author
demonstrating the techniques, as well as a new section on Practical Application. A new Foreword has been written by the author's son, Yasuhisa Shioda, in which he discusses the universality of Aikido and its emphasis on defense over attack, which enables anyone, regardless of age, to practice it.
This is one of Aikido's most appealing aspects, and it is the wish of both the author and his son that readers will find Aikido: The Complete Basic Techniques to be an invaluable study guide and source of inspiration.

ISBN: 4770015321 Budo:Teachings of the Founder of Aikido
"Another important book for anyone interested in
understanding O-Sensei's Aikido. This book contains the words of
Morihei Ueshiba O-Sensei himself along with many pictures of the
founder doing technique.
Dating from the 1930's these words and
pictures come from a time in which O-Sensei's Enlightenment experience
had reshaped his vision of Budo. At the same time at the age of
around fifty years old he was still at the peak of his physical
powers so the Aikido of this time illustrates the balance between
the martial and the spiritual elements of Aikido more than at any
other time in its history."

Kisshomaru Ueshiba is the son of Morihei Ueshiba
O-Sensei, the founder of Aikido, and was the Aikido Doshu (Master
of the Way) and head of the Aikikai organisation. This book should
be helpful to beginners wishing to learn Aikido as taught by the
Aikikai. It explains basic things like breakfalls, stances, basic
techniques, and many empty hand applications. Most of the pictures
feature Kisshomaru Ueshiba Sensei executing the techniques. There
is a very interesting chapter on the life of Morihei Ueshiba Sensei
and how he came to create Aikido. A very good source of information
for students of Aikido.

Angry White Pyjamas
When Robert Twigger
found himself training alongside the Tokyo Riot Police, he realised two
things: He'd never been fit and he'd never been tough. In fact, as a student
and poet in the relatively cosseted world of Oxford, he had done nothing
to uphold the family's military reputation established by his grandfather.
But once he joined Japan's most famous Aikido "dojo", (academy)
he came up against all the challenges a life of tough physical action had
to throw at him: Sadistic teachers, even more sadistic friends, repetitive
training, broken limbs and the ominous "nobbies".

Angry White Pyjamas
Robert Twigger won the Newdigate Prize for poetry in 1985. Since
then he has been a record plugger, a hearse driver, a film reviewer,
construction worker, rap artist, high school teacher in Japan, unarmed
combat instructor to the Indo-Tibetan Border Police, bodyguard,
and personal secretary to a Russian princess.
Angry White Pyjamas was winner of the 1998 Somerset Maugham
Award and the 1998 William Hill Sports Book of the Year Award.
