Our background
Adelaide Yoshinkai Aikido was originally a non-profit organisation and was incorporated in December 21, 1993. The club members began training in January 1994, and were based at the Western Youth Centre on Marion Road, Cowandilla. The club enjoyed limited success until it was dissolved by a meeting of members on January 24, 1999 and was finally de-registered as a non-profit organisation on August 4, 1999.
In June 1995, Mary-Joan Bradley and Terry Dean purchased an apostolic church located at 47 The Crescent, Blair Athol and converted part of the building into a professional dojo which has been operating as a business since January 29, 1998.
The Ojirowashi dojo is an independent dojo that promotes and teaches Yoshinkan Aikido based on the International Yoshinkan Aikido Federation (IYAF) syllabus. We have a close affiliation with the NZYAF because our chief instructor was trained by Eddie Wong Sensei, 6th Dan Yoshinkan instructor from Auckland, New Zealand. Our contact with the Yoshinkan Honbu dojo is maintained via this important relationship.
