Shinmen Musashi No Kami Fujiwara No Genshin, or as he is commonly known
Miyamoto Musashi, was born in the village called Miyamoto in the province
Mimasaka in 1584. "Musashi" is the name of an area south-west
of Tokyo, and the appellation "No Kami" means noble person
of the area, while "Fujiwara" is the name of a noble family
foremost in Japan over a thousand years ago.

Soke Toshishiro Obata is the founder/ Kaicho of the Aikido & Aikibujutsu
Tanren Kenkyukai, as well as the founding Director and Chief Instructor
of The Kokusai Shinkendo Renmei, an organization dedicated to teaching
true swordsmanship. In 1966, he was an 'uchi deshi' under the late Shioda
Gozo and taught at the Yoshinkan Honbu as well as universities, the
Metropolitan Riot Police and Self Defense to the Japanese Army, for
7 years.

This is the official home page of the famous Yoshinkan Honbu Dojo. Soke
Gozo Shioda (1915 - 1994) named his dojo the "Yoshinkan" in honour of
his father's dojo and literally means "House for the cultivation of
the spirit". The Headquarters of the Yoshinkan school of Aikido and
location of the office for the International Yoshinkan Aikido Federation
(IYAF) in Shinjuku, Tokyo - Japan.

The Ki No Kenkyukai Foundation was established on September 16, 1971
by Koichi Tohei Sensei. There are approximately 200,000 members worldwide.
It is the only specialized organization authorized by the Japanese Ministry
of Health and Welfare. Tohei Shoushu was born in Shitaya ward of Tokyo
in 1920. At three years of age he returned to his hometown in the Tochigi
Prefecture. He is a graduate of Keio University. He has been studying
Aikido since the age of 19, obtaining the highest rank of 10th Dan.
Since 1953 he frequently travels to America and Europe in efforts to
spread Aikido. After organizing the Ki Society International (Ki no
Kenkyukai) in 1971 he has made a great effort to spread the principles
of Ki-Aikido.

Kenji Tomiki was born on the 15th of March, 1900 in Akita Prefecture.
His first martial arts training began at the age of 6, when he took
up a bokken, and soon after began studying kendo. At the age of 10,
he began his training in Judo. His skills and dedication to training
were such that, after being the captain of the Judo Team at Waseda University
in Tokyo, he became an uchi-deshi (live-in student) of Jigoro Kano,
the founder of Judo. It was through his association with Kano that Tomiki
Sensei came to be acquainted with Morihei Ueshiba, the founder of Aikido....

Saito Sensei 9th dan began studying for O-Sensei in 1946. Through out
all of his time as a student of O-Sensei“s Saito Sensei lived in the
immediate vicinity of O-Sensei and cared for his family. Under the supervision
of O-Sensei, Saito Sensei systematized and made the teachings of aikido
more pedagogic. Saito Sensei was a close student of O-Sensei for 24
years - Saito Sensei is the student who has studied for the longest
period of time directly for the founder.

David Lynch began his aikido training in 1962 as an uchideshi under
Gozo Shioda at the Yoshinkan Aikido Hombu Dojo. In 1967 he established
the first aikido school in New Zealand, teaching there until his return
to Japan in 1973, when he worked for the New Zealand Embassy in Tokyo
for 15 years. He studied under Koichi Tohei of the Ki no Kenkyukai and
under the main instructors at the Aikikai Hombu Dojo, as well as with
Kenji Shimizu of the Tendokan. He is a 6th-dan Yoshinkai, 3rd-dan Aikikai,
3rd-dan Tendokan and 2nd-dan Shin Shin Toitsu Aikido. He is credited
with pioneering Aikido in New Zealand where he now runs his own independent
dojo.
